Urban Roots was launched in 1995 by Dean Aikin as a landscape maintenance and garden installation business specialising in soft landscaping for both residential and commercial projects.

Since then our boutique business is proud to have created more than 500 gardens. Our team of 8 dedicated and experienced professionals pride themselves on absolute commitment to delivering and maintaining projects to the very highest of quality.

Our belief is it’s not enough to just build a garden and walk away. Each garden we create needs stewardship, which is why we also manage them, to ensure they reach their full potential.

Dean Aikin

Dean Aikin is the founder and driving force behind Urban Roots. His love of plants began when he was 13 on his family’s apple orchard on the Mornington Peninsula, where he helped his Dad plant fruit trees. This love grew into a passion and he studied landscaping at Ryde School of Horticulture.

Now with over 30 years industry experience he brings an unrivaled knowledge of horticulture and landscaping and a proactive approach and energy to every project. Over his career he’s gained a reputation for professionalism, honesty and integrity.

Dean values a strong relationship with his clients and he continues to enjoy much repeat business and constant referrals.

His love of plants, their form and place in the landscape has helped him create beautiful outdoor spaces across both residential and commercial properties.
